5 Easy Ways to Throw a Green Party This 4th of July

June 30, 2011

How about adding a little GREEN to your red, white and blue party this weekend?

Here are a few simple ideas:

1. Use reusable  plates, silverware, napkins and cups instead of disposable to save on trash. Consider purchasing 4th of July themed plates, cloth napkins and cups or glasses after the holiday when they are on sale and break them out each year!

2. When purchasing fireworks for home use, buy Nitrogen-rich Fireworks. They are a bit more expensive than standard fireworks, but release less smoke and heavy metals into the environment. Or consider forgoing at-home fireworks all together and opt for attending community fireworks instead.

3. Serve plenty of organic meat, poultry, fruits and veggies at the party. Buy locally if possible. Organic food is both healthier for you and the environment!

4. Make recycling a priority at your party by placing well-marked containers for items such as glass bottles, cans, etc in an area that is easily accessible by guests.

5. Decorate naturally! Cut flowers from your garden to decorate tables or have the kids string fresh blueberries and cranberries for a festive streamer.
