Create Your Own Green Oven Cleaner

August 3, 2011

Make a safe, non-toxic oven cleaner using water and baking soda

Avoid the use of toxic chemicals in your home and save money at the same time by making your own “green” oven cleaner using baking soda and water! Here is the recipe:

Baking Soda

Squirt Bottle

Drop cloth or newspaper

1.  Cover the floor around the opening of your oven  with a drop cloth or newspaper to make for an easier clean-up.

2. Spray the bottom and sides of the oven with a generous amount of water.

3. Sprinkle baking soda inside the oven (especially over grime) and add more water until it becomes a thick paste.

4. Let set overnight.

5. Wipe the inside of the oven with a damp sponge. Grime and dirt should easily wipe away. (Re-apply more water and baking soda if you have some REALLY stubborn stains!)

5. Be sure to remove all water and baking soda from the inside of the oven and allow it to dry completely before turning on the oven.

***Be sure to read the instructions on cleaning your specific oven before attempting this recipe. Some ovens require special cleaning.***
