Eco-friendly Fall Entertaining: 5 Steps to An Amazing Fall Party

September 16, 2012

Can you feel it in the air? Fall is nearly here.  After a very hot summer, it is finally time for eco-friendly fall entertaining!! Looking for a few new ideas on how to create the perfect party? From setting the perfect table to creating a terrific menu, here is our five step guide to creating a beautiful eco-friendly fall gathering:

1. NATURAL DECORATIONS THAT ARE SIMPLE AND INEXPENSIVE.

-Create adorable name cards by writing guest’s names on miniature pumpkins. (Use a sharpie to make it permanent)

– Send the kids out to find beautiful fall leaves to decorate the table.

– Create amazing centerpieces with fresh apples or cranberries in clear glass bowls.

2. SERVE NATURAL AND ORGANIC FOODS.

-Organic fruit and veggie tray is always a hit as appetizers or try this delicious Fruit and Vegetable Scone Recipe from Whole Food Market

-How about creating a pumpkin feast using these recipes from The Daily Green: http://www.thedailygreen.com/healthy-eating/eat-safe/pumpkin-recipes-50102009

3. CREATE A FALL FEEL WITH NATURAL AIR FRESHENERS.

– Place a small amount of cinnamon sticks in a pot of water and simmer for a fresh fall smell throughout your house.

-Chestnuts roasting on an open fire doesn’t have to be reserved for Christmas, roast a few in your oven before guests arrive and set the mood for the whole event!

4. NATURAL AND UNIQUE PARTY FAVORS

– Guests will love a caramel apple bar! Purchase large organic granny smith apples, wash, dry and remove stems. Insert stick in the top about 3/4 inches deep and let the fun begin! Melt natural caramel pieces over the stove for dipping (careful not to burn!!) the apple, fill bowls with crushed nuts, 100% pure organic chocolate bits, or any other healthy treat and allow your guests to create their very own caramel apple!

– How about purchasing soy candles, soapberries or another unique eco-friendly item from one of our GO GREEN WEB DIRECTORY members as a keepsake your guests will be talking about for months to come!

5. ECO-FRIENDLY CRAFTS FOR THE KIDS

-Have the kids head outside and find a few pine cones. Once back inside, tie a string to the top of the pine cone then have the kids coat the pine cone in peanut butter and add birdseed to create an adorable eco-friendly birdfeeder for their backyard! (Be sure to have old t-shirts available to put over clothing and a paper bag to carry home their creation!)

-Purchase non-toxic paints and a pumpkin for each child. Let the children decorate a pumpkin for their porch at home. Encourage the children to cut the top off the pumpkin once they are finished with it and allow the birds and squirrels to eat the seeds and pulp in preparation for winter! (This will make for some fun animal watching as well!)
