July 25, 2013

Here are a couple of fun pool noodle craft ideas that we love. Perfect for upcycling those old, used pool noodles sitting in your garage! Plus, we have added a few tips to make them even more eco-friendly! Enjoy!

POOL NOODLE CRAFT IDEAS #1:  PAINTpool noodle craft ideasING FOR THE KIDS

Here’s a terrific way to get creative with the kids.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Old Pool Noodles

Knife or scissors (knife works better)

paper plates (or other dish to hold paint)

Fingerpaints- Looking for a more eco-friendly alternative? Here is a recipe to make your own  edible fingerpaints from products around the house!

Recycled Construction paper (or other large recycled paper)

WHAT TO DO:

1. Have an adult cut the pool noodles into different size pieces. Some can be cut in half long-way and others can be circles. If you are really creative, try cutting them into other patterns as well.

2. Pour the fingerpaints onto paper plates or other dish.

3. Let the kids paint!

This one can get a bit messy. So be prepared with  buckets of water and towels for washing little hands and faces.

POOL NOODLE CRAFT IDEAS #2: Pool Noodle Wreath

This one is perfect for a holiday decoration or just something fun!

WHAT YOU NEED:

A Pool Noodle
Duct Tape or Clear Packing Tape
Glue Gun
Scissors
Fabric (your choice of colors- we suggest using scrap cloth or recycle old clothing into something new!)
Embellishments (this is where you can be creative with natural items such as dried fruits, flowers, nuts and more)
WHAT TO DO:
1. Take your noodle and use packing tape to secure the noodle into a circle.
2. Select your fabric. This can be old scraps from another project or even cloth from an old dress that you can re-purpose into a wreath! Cut or tear it into 4-6 inch wide strips about 2 feet or more long if possible. (The longer you make the strip, the less seams in the back)

3. Secure your first strip of fabric to your noodle with a bead of glue and start winding it around. Remember to always end your piece in the back. Secure the next section with a strip of glue and continue until your noodle is covered.
4. Decorate with fresh flowers, dried fruits, moss, corn husks or even herbs to make your eco-friendly wreath complete!
